"I’ll probably go see him at the library and at Braden because I’ve seen some of his shows. He’s a cool person to watch, and a live show isn’t something a normal student gets the chance to see."

Junior special education major

Jeff Corwin to headline Science and Technology Week

NORMAL – The College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) will host an evening with Jeff Corwin as the keynote speaker on April 20 for the 2011 Science and Technology Week.

Science and Technology Week takes place April 18-22 and celebrates the hard work of students and professionals as well as the advancements in the field of science and technology.

CAST has picked Corwin as the keynote speaker because of his history with educating people on conserving endangered species and ecosystems around the globe. Being on Animal Planet for years should have many students recognizing him.

“I’ll probably go see him at the library and at Braden because I’ve seen some of his shows,” said Samantha Alderson, junior special education major. “He’s a cool person to watch, and a live show isn’t something a normal student gets the chance to see.”

Judy Ng, junior health information management major and CAST student, is looking forward to a week dedicated to her major and the activities that come with it.

“It seems every major has a week set aside for their students and the activities don’t offer much for me. But hopefully with this week, I can find something that will help with my major,” Ng said.

Milner Library will present a question and answer forum with Corwin on April 20 at 3 p.m. followed by Corwin’s “100 Heartbeats” presentation at 7 p.m. in Braden Auditorium located in the Bone Student Center. Both presentations are free and open to the public with a book signing following the “100 Heartbeats” show.

Corwin is best known for his work with animals but also spends time on conservation. He is a news correspondent for multiple news outlets and is currently promoting his latest creation “100 Heartbeats”.

“100 Heartbeats” investigates the problems of the most endangered animals on the planet and the conservationists who are trying to save them.
