NORMAL- The ISU Swing Dance hosted its third dance lesson of the semester in the Circus Room of the Bone Student Center Monday night.

A group of 25 professionals and newcomers alike were taught basic and advanced dance moves. As the president and vice president of ISU Swing Dance, Mary Strum, senior psychology major, and Jess Largent, doctoral English major, instructed participants on the finer points of swing dancing, participants were paired with a different person for each dance move. This allows new members to meet and dance with experienced members.

“It’s something different and you meet great people,” Tesia Schiltz, freshman English education major and frequent participant, said.

“It’s really interesting for me to learn a dance outside of the categories I’m used to,” Christen Bennett, junior psychology major, said.

Sturm and Largent teach basic moves to both students and members of the community, while incorporating new moves each week.

“Attendance varies weekly. We get new people every week, so we make sure to go over the basics before we teach a new move,” Sturm said.

Anyone interested in learning swing dance is encouraged to come to lessons every Monday at 8 p.m.

“It’s open to the public, it’s free, and it’s something to do,” Strum added.
